Combined West Coast district plan
The Local Government Commission gives notice in accordance with clause 22(1)(a) of Schedule 3 of the Local Government Act 2002 that it has decided to issue a final proposal for a combined West Coast district plan.
The combined district plan will be prepared and approved by a joint committee comprising representatives of Buller, Grey and Westland district councils, West Coast Regional Council, Te Rūnanga o Ngati Waewae and Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio, and with an independent chairperson. Establishment of the joint committee will follow the transfer to West Coast Regional Council of Buller, Grey and Westland district councils’ obligations for district plans under the Resource Management Act 1991 and delegation of these obligations to the above joint
committee.
The Commission, after consideration of submissions on the draft proposal and the receipt of other information, decided that the proposal for a combined West Coast district plan will best promote the purpose of local government by way of achieving a good quality district plan for the West Coast and will also facilitate improved economic performance. A transition board, with the same membership as the joint committee, will be appointed to agree all necessary matters to enable the joint committee to meet and begin its work as
soon as possible.
Copies of the final proposal may be inspected at the offices of Buller, Grey and Westland district councils and West Coast Regional Council. The final proposal may also be viewed on the Local Government Commission’s website.
