High interest in the option of a local board for Golden Bay – Local Government Commission to hear submissions

04 Sep 2020

The Local Government Commission has received a total of 581 submissions on the option of establishing a Golden Bay local board, chairperson of the Commission Brendan Duffy advised today. The submissions are available on the application's website page.

Website page: 2020 Tasman District reorganisation - Establishment of a Golden Bay local board

Submissions closed on 14 August 2020 and a breakdown of these show a majority supporting either a local board just for Golden Bay or for Golden Bay and elsewhere in Tasman District. Two hundred submissions supported retention of existing arrangements in the district including retention of the existing community boards in both Golden Bay and Motueka.

The Commission will now proceed to hear those submitters who indicated they wished to speak to the Commission in support of their submission and who have confirmed this with the Commission.

Two hearings have been arranged with one on Onetahua Marae in Pohara Valley Road, Pohara on Tuesday, 8 September and the second one in the Headingly Centre in Richmond on Wednesday, 9 September 2020.

In light of current Covid-19 alert level 2 restrictions, Mr Duffy said the hearings are limited to those who have confirmed their attendance with the Commission. In order to provide as much transparency as possible in the circumstances, the Commission is looking at the option of members of the public being able to view the hearings online.
